There are some that would say that to believe in God is to live by faith. There are others who would say that living by faith is relying on God to provide all our needs. But are these phrases complete in themselves and what does the Bible say?

I woke up yesterday morning wondering what I should do! There is so much that I could do, a certain amount that I have to do, and some other things that I feel I really ought to do… but what do I do?
We’ve just moved to St Jean de Maurienne, so there are some big projects - do I try to push ahead with one of these… do I use the time to organise some of the chaos that is our flat at the moment so that I can work more efficiently later? And then the still small voice of God talks to my spirit….

Here I am surrounded by boxes as we prepare to move house. We’ve been wanting to move for a long time now but until recently didn’t know where God might be sending us. Then doors opened for us in the Maurienne valley… and so we looked for a nice house because we needed (?wanted) something bigger.. something with a garden, somewhere we could easily have friends to stay - possibly for an extended period of time. We found an old farmhouse, well situated in need of renovation - it was all we were looking for, all we needed was the finance, something relatively easy for God to provide… but He didn’t - Why not?

Is the glass half full or half empty? Do you see the cloud or the silver lining?
My wife and I tend to complement each other, or that’s what I like to say… she’s the optimist… but really, where does that leave me? I prefer to say that I’m a realist, I’d rather not live in hope because I don’t like the disappointment that can result at times, and yet is this how God wants me (us - if you put yourself in the same category as me) to live?

As we were sitting listening to a sermon a couple of weeks back on Isaiah 61 I felt that God was announcing for us a ‘Year of Favour’, a year of blessing, a year when we would see great things take place. And whilst it is good to sit and enjoy the blessing we are aware that these times are not to be squandered.
A year of favour can produce two results - great faith or complacency…. Read the rest of this entry »

I wonder sometimes why we go through seasons in our lives… and when we do realise this we often see the hard times, the winter, barren times when we yearn for Spring. But what do we do when the better times do come? Do we press on into our relationship with our creator God or do we breathe a sigh of relief and coast until we hit another hard time? We must persevere just as much in times of blessing as in times of trial.

I thought I’d just put a couple of photos of our fellowship in the Maurienne here… pray for us as the Lord moulds us together as his body in this place.
We were privileged to have two new families represented last Sunday…

And we had a meal together afterwards….
